MTN Nigeria Foundation awards annual scholarships worth N300,000 to eligible students in public tertiary institutions in Nigeria, in the following categories:
- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields under the MTN Science & Technology Scholarship (STS) – since 2009.
- Blind students studying any discipline under the MTN Scholarship for the Blind (SBS) – since 2011.
- Top 10 scoring candidates in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to encourage excellence – since 2020.
The MTN Scholarships Programme has supported high‑performing students across these three key categories. The scholarship is renewed every year until graduation, subject to recipients maintaining the required Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) and completing a number of digital courses.
Annually, the MTN Foundation awards up to 400 new scholarships while also renewing existing scholarship awards. However, following the approval of the MTN Foundation Board of Directors, the number of new scholarship opportunities was increased from 400 to 500 in 2026, with 100 additional slots specifically allocated to medical students, further expanding access to educational support for high-performing Nigerian students.
Since its inception, the MTN Scholarships Programme has continued to deliver significant impact, with the MTN Foundation investing over ₦3.3 billion to award a total of 15,764 scholarships to 5,741 students to date. The initiative remains a core pillar of MTN Nigeria’s commitment to youth development, academic excellence, and human capital development, contributing meaningfully to national growth and long‑term socio‑economic advancement.
