What is Showmax?
A. Showmax is an ad-free video-on-demand service that brings you a wide array of series, movies, documentaries, Showmax Originals, kids’ shows, and Premier League games. With as low as N2000 monthly price, you get unlimited access, new content added weekly, and the freedom to watch anytime.
What are the different Showmax plans available and what benefits will I enjoy?
A. Currently, only the Standalone (Access Only) plans are available.
Showmax EPL Monthly Access: Watch the Premier League live from SuperSport, plus all PSL games, and all-access content on your mobile device only.
Showmax GE Monthly Access: Watch Showmax Originals, hit international and local series, movies and kids’ shows on one mobile device only.
Showmax GE All Devices Monthly Access: Watch Showmax Originals, hit international and local series, movies and kids’ shows on TV & mobile devices.
Note:
- Premier League football is only available on mobile devices, regardless of the subscription plan.
- GE means General Entertainment. GE monthly access is for mobile devices only while GE all devices monthly is for all devices including TV.
- You can switch between “All Devices” and “Mobile Only” Plan.
- To be eligible for any of these plans, you need to have a smartphone and be a data user on the MTN Network.
What is the difference between All Devices and Mobile Only plans?
A. All Devices plans:
- Allow you to Watch Showmax content on any Showmax supported device, including TVs, laptops, tablets, and smartphones.
- You can register multiple devices on your Showmax account.
- You can watch on two registered devices simultaneously; these are referred to as active devices.
- You can start watching on one device, and resume watching on another, using the same profile.
- You can cast streaming content.
Mobile Only plans:
- Allow you to Watch Showmax content on only smartphones or tablets.
- Register one mobile device on your Showmax account.
- You can watch on one registered mobile device (smartphone or tablet).
- You cannot stream on laptops or TVs.
- Casting is not permitted.
How many plans can I have active at the same time on my device.
A. You can activate up to 2 plans, however, the products are not expected to overlap. Two Entertainment or two Sports products cannot be active at the same time.
E.g.:
- You cannot have GE monthly and GE All devices monthly plans active at the same time.
- You can have GE monthly and EPL monthly or GE All devices monthly and EPL monthly at the same time.
What should I do to see all my subscriptions after adding Showmax to an existing product?
A. To view all your subscriptions, please sign out of your account and then sign back in. This refreshes your account and ensures all active subscriptions are displayed correctly.
How do I subscribe to this service?
You can subscribe via USSD or SMS.

How can I pay for Showmax?
A. You can pay via Airtime once you have sufficient balance.
What happens after I send the subscription request?
A. You will receive a pop-up menu. If you do not receive it, please dial *480*3# to see your pending services and proceed. Also, if DND is active on your line, you will not be able to receive the pop-up. Text ALLOW to 2442. (*Especially iPhone users.)
I received a pop-up menu to choose either Auto-renewal or One-off. What does this mean?
A. The pop-up menu, which is called Double Opt-In (DOI), is a feature that allows you to set your subscription on Auto-renew or One-off purchase.
- Auto-renew Purchase means that your subscription will automatically renew after expiry provided you have enough airtime on your line.
- One-off Purchase means that your subscription will not renew after expiry date even with sufficient airtime.
Who can subscribe to Showmax service?
A. All MTN Customers (Prepaid/Postpaid) can subscribe to any Showmax service.
Do I need to register for the service?
A. Your subscription gives you access to the Showmax platform. However, you need to complete your activation by creating an account with your details.
Do I get notified after my Showmax Plan has expired?
A. Yes, you will be notified before and after the expiration.
How do I unsubscribe from Showmax service?
A. To unsubscribe, text the unsubscription keyword to the short code or dial *305# and follow the prompt.

What happens when I cancel my Showmax subscription?
A. If you cancel your subscription, you’ll still have access to Showmax until the end of your current billing cycle. For example, if you’re on a monthly plan, you can continue watching until the end of the month you’ve already paid for. After that, your subscription will end, and you won’t be charged again.
What kind of phone, device or browser do I need to access the service?
A. You can access Showmax on Android & iOS Mobile devices. See below the list of Showmax supported devices and versions.

How many devices can I link to one Showmax account?
A. You can register up to 10 devices on your account, however you can only watch 2 of the devices simultaneously.
- To manage your devices, you must first go to the Devices tab in your Account.
- Sign-in to Showmax.com on a Web Browser.
- Tap on Account in the top right corner.
- Tap on Devices. Here you will see a list of all your registered devices.
How can I manage Profiles?
A. You can create up to 6 user profiles. A main account profile, a pre-made kids profile and four other profiles.
- Each family member can have their own profile, with their own name and avatar.
- You can lock a profile with a pin for added security.
- You can delete the other profiles and if you delete a profile, there is NO option to undo this. When you delete a profile, all viewing history and personalized information such as My Stuff and watch history will be lost for that profile.
- Downloads performed by the profile you are deleting are at a device level, so, you will still be able to access the downloads but will need to do so via another profile. The download remains available until the expiry date is reached.
Is there Parental Control?
A. Yes, there are two types of parental controls you can set up to ensure kids watch only age appropriate Showmax content: Age Restrictions and Profile PIN.
Age Restrictions:
- You can choose between 3 levels of Age Restrictions
- Family – Restricts the profile to family-friendly shows rated PG and below. Content may contain mature themes which are unsuitable for young children.
- Teen – Restricts the profile to content with ratings 13+ and 16+, or below. Parental guidance is required.
- Adult 18 – There are no content restrictions. Content may contain explicitly language, violence, substance abuse, sex and nudity.
- If you are looking for even younger age restrictions, you can create a kid’s profile which has a default age restriction of 10-12 years but can also be set to toddlers and preschoolers or kids aged 7-9 years.
Profile Pin:
- Once you set up a Profile PIN, you’ll need it every time you want to play content from that profile.
- The profile pin is only valid for the device it is set on. If your child is going to use the App on multiple devices, the profile pin needs to be set up on each one.
- If you forget your profile pin, you can reset it in settings.
Are there features that will improve my viewing experience and data usage?
A. The data used is dependent on how much content you watch and at what video quality you watch. The higher the quality of video resolution, the more data you consume. We encourage you to make use of the settings available in the Showmax app to manage the video quality. By default, streaming will be up to a speed of 240 MB/h (Basic), but you can set this lower to 60MB/h (Data saving).
- Data Saving – up to 60 MB/h (This is the minimum to deliver a solid experience in video and audio quality).
- Basic – up to 240 MB/h (This is the default setting)
- Good – up to 420 MB/h (Heavy Data Usage)
- Best – up to 2.1 GB/h (Heavy Data Usage)
You can also restrict streaming and/or downloads to Wi-Fi only by switching the toggle in “Data Settings” in the app.
How do I manage what I would like to watch?
A. With so many shows available, how do you remember what you would like to watch with “My Stuff feature”. It allows you to find a show that you want to watch later and add it to My Stuff and saves you searching for that show again.
Is simultaneous viewing available?
A. This is dependent on the type of plan you have subscribed to. You may watch on two registered devices simultaneously provided you have subscribed to the “All Devices Plan”. You can even start watching on one device and resume on another, provided you are using the same profile. This is not possible on the “Mobile Only Plan”.
What is the Breadcrumbs Menu and how do I use it?
A. The Breadcrumbs Menu is located at the top of the screen and allows you to quickly switch between different content categories such as TV, Movies, and Sport. It helps you navigate easily without having to return to the homepage.
Are subtitles available?
A. Subtitles are available in English on several Showmax shows. View the series or movie information screen within the app for subtitle availability.
How do I download Showmax App?
A. You can download the Showmax app on Google Play Store or Huawei AppGallery and Apple Store.
Google Play Store or Huawei AppGallery:
- Launch the Google Play Store or Huawei AppGallery application on your Android device.
- Search for Showmax. If the Showmax app doesn’t appear in your search result, your Android device is not supported.
- Install the free Showmax application.
- Log in with your Showmax account to enjoy seamless streaming and downloading.
Apple Store:
- Visit the App Store on your device.
- Launch the App Store on your device.
- Search for Showmax.
- Install the free Showmax app that appears in the search results by selecting the Get button.
- Log in with your Showmax account to enjoy seamless streaming and downloading.
Does Showmax allow downloads?
A. Yes. The Showmax app allows users to download 25 titles to watch offline (Offline means watching without the need for an Internet connection). Downloads can only be watched on mobile devices. Note, you cannot download live sports, such as Premier League.
The following limits and expiry rules apply to downloaded content:
- You can download up to 25 complete downloads at a time. Delete content in your Download Manager to free up download slots.
- Downloads are linked to a single subscription across all profiles. Example, even if you have 6 profiles setup, the total amount of complete downloads across all profiles will be 25 shows.
- You will only be able to download content on your device if your device has enough storage space for the download. To maximise the space on your device, make sure to select a lower download quality before downloading, as this will result in the smallest possible file sizes being downloaded.
- The downloaded content will remain on the device for 30 days if not watched.
- As soon as you start to watch a downloaded show, you only have 48 hours in which to complete watching the show.
- After 48 hours that show will expire and be automatically removed.
- If you have a Mobile Only plan and sign out of the Showmax app, downloads will no longer be available to view, and you will need to sign-in and download the content again.
- If you delete the Showmax app and download it again, the downloads from the previous installation will no longer be available to view, and you will need to download the content again.
Download Rules:
- Downloads are only available on iOS, Android and Huawei
- 25 downloads across all devices at a time
- Available for 30 days after downloading.
- Downloads are only valid for 48 hours once play commences.
- Once downloads expire, they can be downloaded again
- You cannot cast downloaded shows.
Can I cast Showmax Premier League matches on my TV?
A. No. Showmax Premier League is only available on a single mobile device and does not allow casting. Only the Showmax Entertainment Plan supports casting of content. Chromecast is not available on Showmax Mobile and Showmax Premier League Mobile Plans.
Can I cast downloaded content on my TV?
A. No. The casting of downloaded content is not supported.

If I am travelling outside the country I signed up in, but am still within one of the countries in which Showmax operates, can I still watch Showmax?
A. Yes. However, the availability of shows might change based on the country you are in.
If I am travelling to a country where Showmax does not operate, can I still watch Showmax?
A. Yes. But you need to download content to your mobile device before your travels, to watch while you’re away. You need to turn off your mobile data and Wi-Fi while you watch to access your downloads.
If I am travelling to a country where Showmax does not operate, can I use a VPN to watch Showmax?
A. No. Please note that Showmax cannot be accessed through proxy or unblocking (VPN) services.

- Check that you are using a supported device
- Try playing other titles (a sound or video issue might be related to a specific piece of content)

- Restart your device
- Log out and then log in again on the Showmax App
