Nigeria’s leading technology company, MTN and foremost tertiary institution, Pan-Atlantic University (PAU) Lagos, have announced the launch of the MTN Media Innovation Programme (MTN MIP), to be run by the PAU’s School of Media and Communication (SMC).

The six months fully funded fellowship for media practitioners in Nigeria is designed to drive sustainable development in the nation’s changing media scene. The programme, which includes a study visit to the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa and an innovation hub to incubate ideas, is open to media practitioners across relevant beats including print, electronic, online platforms and social media content creators.

At the end of the training, successful applicants will have a greater understanding of Nigeria’s technology sector, the nexus between media and technology, and will be equipped with the skills to adapt to changing realities that guarantee career and financial success. Fellows will become an exclusive network of professionals with access to resources and mentorship from SMC’s erudite faculty.

“We are driven by our belief that everyone deserves the benefits of a modern connected world inspired by the potential of Africa. The world is constantly evolving, with the media landscape changing at remarkable speed boosted by technology. Our motivation is to support the Nigerian media space with our infrastructure and enable capacity building initiatives to accelerate innovation in media practice.”

“It’s a delight to partner with the Pan-Atlantic University, who through their expertise have contributed to the professional development of the media industry, not only in Nigeria but across Africa,” Karl Toriola, CEO, MTN Nigeria noted during the announcement.

“The School of Media and Communication was established to train professionals who will uphold the highest intellectual, ethical and professional values that promote creativity, critical knowledge, social responsibility and the spirit of enterprise. The MTN Media Innovation Programme could not have come at a better time for Nigerian media practitioners to imbibe these pertinent values,” Professor Enase Okonedo, Vice-Chancellor, Pan-Atlantic University, added.

The course, fully sponsored by MTN Nigeria, will be available to twenty (20) successful applicants.
