31m Nigerians benefit from N30b MTN Foundation projects

No fewer than 31 million people in Nigeria communities have benefitted from over 50 unique projects sponsored by MTN Foundation within the past 20 years.
According to the Acting Chairman of the Foundation, Dr Dennis Okoro, the projects which cut across health, education, social infrastructures and businesses gulped over N30 billion.
Speaking at an event to mark the 20 years anniversary celebrations of the Foundation at the continental Hotel, Abuja, Dr Okoro said the journey has been one of community service with far reaching achievements for Nigerians including the most vulnerable people.
He said the theme of the celebrations: “unlocking private capital for sustainable development in Nigeria “, was a clarion call for more investments that would transform Nigeria’s landscape for the better.
Dr Okoro said: “Since its inception, the MTN Foundation has invested over 30 billion naira in more than 50 unique projects and initiatives positively impacting approximately 31.3 million Nigerians in 3,323 communities nationwide.”
“Today, we celebrate our 20 years journey of resilience, hope, learning, evolution and transformation.”
“Today, we are also assembling a call to action, a rallying cry to harness our creative resources, expertise and networks to drive sustainable growth and social impact in Nigeria.”
“As we gather to celebrate two decades of impactful philanthropic and transformative community engagement, we are inspired by the theme of this milestone event, Unlocking Private Capital for Sustainable Development in Nigeria.”
The Chairman of MTN Nigeria, Dr Ernest Ndukwe said for over 20 years, the Foundation has made tangible difference and established its presence in various communities across Nigeria by providing social amenities like boreholes, health centres and infrastructures for schools.
Dr Ndukwe said: “As a company, we remain grateful for the opportunity to serve our nation, working in partnership with various governments at all levels and various organizations to drive and sustain progress.”
