As part of its implementation of projects under its What Can We Do Together (WCWDT) initiative aimed at improving the quality of lives across Nigerian communities, MTN Foundation has upgraded, commissioned and handed over a number of projects, including the provision of school learning materials, the upgrading of primary health care centres, and the installation of pipe borne water facilities.

Speaking at the handover of hospital supplies, including a new baby delivery ward and other equipment at Unguwan Sanusi Primary Health Centre in Kaduna South Local Government Area, the Community Head, Saidu Mohid thanked the Foundation for consistently committing to invest in the quality of lives of the communities where MTN Nigeria operates in. In his words, “we have now seen with our eyes that MTN means well for our community and are happy that our clinic has now received these medical equipment.”

In her remarks, the Officer-in-Charge of the centre, Umma Bello Alhassan said companies should invest more in building social capital and improving healthcare delivery, adding that “When the MTN people came in January to verify our health centre, I was not sure if they will come back. With this donation, we are very grateful for the MTN Foundation’s donation and wish that other companies will do things like What Can We Do Together for their customers and Nigerians.”

Geared towards developing grassroots communities through the nominations by its subscribers, WCWDT has, since its launch in 2017, seen over 10 million Nigerians in 347 local government areas benefit from various interventions, with 40 communities receiving 500KVA transformers and another 40 communities receiving 650ft boreholes.

The first two years also saw the supply of medical equipment to 80 primary healthcare centres; the provision of school furniture sets to 174 schools and household supplies delivered to 66 orphanages in different communities nationwide.

Now in its third year, the implementation phase of WCWDT commenced in early April 2019 with the distribution of school learning materials in all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and also health amenities. The Foundation projects that this year’s WCWDT campaign will reach over 800 communities around the country.
