We recognise that our markets need nuanced sustainability solutions and practices to establish a balance between long-term sustainability goals and the urgent need for employment, poverty reduction and eradication, and growth & development. We believe in playing our part in Africa’s transformation to improve people’s quality of life and dignity and stimulate growth that is economically empowering and environmentally sustainable.

Our Sustainability Highlights

Doing for Planet

  • Achieved an 11.0% reduction in GHG emissions for Scope 1 and 2 (targeting Net Zero by 20240).
  • Launched eco-friendly SIM cards, made from recyclable materials, to reduce plastic waste.
  • Implemented waste awareness campaigns and introduced waste segregation bins across our offices in Lagos, through Project GreenCycle.

Doing for Growth

  • N1.48 trillion spent on local suppliers, representing 59.6% of our total procurement spend.
  • N764.2 billion paid in income taxes, duties, and levies to the government
  • Our capital expenditure (excluding leases) stood at over N443.5 billion.

Doing for People

  • Women are 41.4% of our workforce (targeting 50% by 2030).
  • Broadband penetration rose to 90.1% in 2024.
  • MTN Foundation invested N3.5 billion in CSI projects and impacted over 663,300 people.

Doing it Right

  • Reputation index score of 79%, above the target benchmark of 75%.
  • Rated “B-” (management band) for climate change and a “C” rating for water security in the CDP assessment.
  • Rated 3.6 (excellent) out of 4 on the Risk Insights ESG GPS sustainability rating system.
