The HCBC event successfully brought together over 410 participants (physical and virtual) from diverse backgrounds, including youth, educators, caregivers, NGOs, and tech partners. The event created a platform for open dialogue on online safety, mental health, and digital literacy, particularly among Gen Z audiences.
The event facilitated cross-sector collaboration, with active participation from organisations such as MTV Base & Paramount Africa, Ipsos, Meta, Tech4Dev, UNICEF, and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). These partnerships were vital in driving future advocacy and policy engagement.
The youth panel session provided authentic insights into the lived experiences of young people navigating digital spaces. Their stories showed the emotional and psychological impact of online pressure, cyberbullying, and the need for relatable support systems.
The digital literacy session led by Tech4Dev equipped attendees with practical tools and knowledge to identify online threats, avoid scams, and protect their digital identities.
In addition, MTN’s MoMo and FibreX teams exhibited their products at the event, showcasing our broader digital inclusion efforts and engaging attendees with innovative solutions. Their presence added value to the event’s experiential component.
We culminated the event with a call to action for every attendee to be an ambassador and advocate for safety online in their various schools and local communities. All attendees were encouraged to access our digital resource hub for information, toolkits, videos, and reporting links that can be accessed beyond the event to sustain impact.
