In 2024, the Foundation clocked 20 years of impacting the lives of Nigerians in communities across the 36 States and the FCT. We are humbled by the extensive work we have been able to accomplish in 2 decades and are desirous of accomplishing even greater feats in the coming decades.
In collaboration with our valued stakeholders, we exist to enable opportunities that drive sustainable growth in our communities. Our key focus areas are Capacity building, Health and Economic Empowerment.
Guided by our new vision that ‘at MTN Foundation, we envision a Nigeria where no community is left behind,’ and mission ‘to consistently enhance the well-being of our communities by fostering investments through collaborations and partnerships in capacity building, health, and economic empowerment,’ we set out by setting clear objectives which include:
- To increase our pool of shared meaning through stakeholder engagement and ecosystem partnerships;
- To contribute significantly to the quality of lives and livelihoods through social interventions;
- To strengthen our Monitoring and Evaluation methods to deliver value to our communities and deepen impact;
- To continue to serve as the reference point for Corporate Social Investment in Nigeria.
We hold dear the impact our interventions of the past two decades have had on individuals that have become inspirational stories. Stories of people empowered to live a better quality life, despite the several constraints and/or obstacles that faced them- like Mrs. Opeyemi Igbinoba (Nee Adewale), one of our Alumni Scholars, who though visually impaired at the age of 5, rose from this incident to become a motivational speaker, nail art enthusiast, a human resources professional, who worked at manager at PWC, one of the leading professional services networks in the world, furthered her education to become a HR Masters’ Degree holder and CIPM chartered, and now a wife and mother.
Inspired by Mr. Irewole Komolafe, from a humble background, who sponsored the education of 3 others whilst an undergraduate, in a bid to support his family. Being an MTN Scholar availed him the opportunity to support his family, whilst also receiving the much-needed resources for his studies. Through his doggedness, he got an internship and was later promoted to a full-time staff with PISCES Offshore Limited.
Moved by the Story of Mr. Ekene Christian Odumegwu, who nominated Sabon Gari Primary School, Wudil, Kano State, his Primary Place of Assignment during his service year, to benefit from the school furniture project under the What Can We Do Together (WCWDT) initiative. A true patriot, he remembered the pupils sitting on the floor to learn, hence his nomination.
Lifted by seeing the fulfillment of dreams in the stories of Mrs. Mary Okwori and Mr. Andrews Soairi, both graduates of the Musical School of Nigeria (MUSON) who graduated with 1st degrees in different disciplines but through our scholarships with MUSON, were able to become music professionals. A new chance to pursue life on their terms.
This is ‘us’. Our stories. The embodiment of the Nigerian spirit of hope and resilience. We are proud and humbled to play a part in the lives of the men and women of our great country, passionate about the implementation of these projects and honoured to have a hand in making dreams come true. This is our calling; to do more, together.
Cheers to MTN Foundation.
Cheers to 20 years.
Cheers to many more impactful decades.
