MTN Data Gifting service makes it easy for you to transfer data, buy data for friends & family, and request for data . With MTN Data Gifting, you can send and buy data bundles for other smartphones, modems, and tablets.

A. You can access the service by using the myMTN app or by dialling the USSD codes (*321*2# or *312*8#).

  • myMTN app: Click ‘Share’ button, then ‘Data Share’
  • Transfer from Data Balance:

Simply dial *312*Phone number*Data amount#

i.e. If you want to transfer 100MB, simply text:

Note: When you recharge from N500 and above on your line, you will get a menu with the Gift Data option. You will be able to gift data once you select the option.

A. No, you only need to enter your beneficiary’s phone number and choose a data plan to use the service.

What amount of data can I transfer at a time? What amount of data can I transfer at a time?

A. The amount of data you can transfer at time are 100MB, 200MB, 500MB, 1GB, 2GB, 3GB and 5GB. However, you must ensure you have at least 100MB in your data balance after every transfer for your transfer to be successful.

How many times can I transfer data from my balance? How many times can I transfer data from my balance?

A. You can transfer data from your balance multiple times daily. However, the cumulative amount you can transfer in a day is 5GB, and a cumulative of ten (10) times per month.

Examples:

1. Amaka transferred 2GB and 3GB from her data balance on the 1st of October.

  • She will no longer be able to transfer data from her balance on the same day.
  • She will be able to share data up to 5GB daily, from her balance from the 2nd of October.
  • She will only be able to share data from her balance, eight (8) more times between the 2nd of October and the 31st of October.

2. Zain transferred 500MB ten times on the 1st of October.

  • She will no longer be able to transfer data from her balance for the rest of October.
  • She will be able to transfer data from her balance, again, from the 1st of November.

3. Chichi transferred 1GB and 2GB daily from the 1st of October through the 5th of October.

  • She will no longer be able to transfer data from her balance from the 6th of October to the 31st of October.
  • She will be able to transfer data from her balance, again, from the 1st of November.
What happens when I share up to 10 times in the month? What happens when I share up to 10 times in the month?

A. You will not be able to share data from your balance once you have transferred up to ten (times) in a month and you will be notified accordingly. However, you can still buy data for your friends and family any time.

Will the 10 times data share limit apply on my existing data bundle? Will the 10 times data share limit apply on my existing data bundle?

A. No. Customers that have purchased any of the eligible bundle before the 31st of October 2024, will still be able to transfer data from their balance more than 10 times in a month. However, once the buy any new bundle, the 10 times limit will now apply.

Will I be able to share up to ten times on any type of data bundle I purchase? Will I be able to share up to ten times on any type of data bundle I purchase?

A. Yes, you will be able to share up to ten times per month, from the balance of your data bundle. However, you will only be able to share a maximum of 20% if you are sharing from any data plan of 75GB and above.

Examples:

1. Malik activated a 75GB Monthly data plans on the 5th of November 2024. He will only be able to transfer a cumulative of 15GB (i.e., 20% of 75GB) from his data balance between the 5th of November and the 31st of November.

2. and transferred 5GB ten times on the 1st of November.

  • She will no longer be able to transfer data from her balance for the rest of November.
  • She will be able to transfer data from her balance, again, from the 1st of December.

3. Chichi transferred 1GB and 2GB daily from the 1st of November through the 5th of November.

  • She will no longer be able to transfer data from her balance from the 6th of November to the 31st of November.
  • She will be able to transfer data from her balance, again, from the 1st of December.
Will the 20% data share limit be applicable to new and existing data bundle purchases? Will the 20% data share limit be applicable to new and existing data bundle purchases?

A. No. The 20% data share cap will only apply to new purchases of the eligible data bundles from 5th November 2024. Customers that have purchased the eligible data plans before the date will still be able to transfer more than the 20% limit of their data balance. Once the customer buys a new data plan, the 20% data share limit will now apply.

Note: Both the 10 times monthly limit and 20% data share limit will apply to new purchases of eligible 75GB and above data bundles from 5th of November 2024.

Example: Selena with an active 400GB 3-Month plan since October 2024:

  1. Will be able to transfer more than 10 times per month and more than the 20% data share limit on her line, till the bundle expires/gets exhausted, if she does not purchase any new data bundle from 5th of November 2024.
  2. Will be able to transfer up to 10 times per month on her line once she buys any new data plan and will still be able to share more than 20% from her data balance.
  3. Will be able to transfer up to 10 times per month and up to 20% of her data balance on her line once she buys any of the eligible data plans from the 5th of November 2024.
How many times can I send a request for data? How many times can I send a request for data?

A. You will be able to send a request for data at most 5 times a day, but you shall be able to receive data request multiple times.

Will I be able to receive request for data if I have DND active on my line? Will I be able to receive request for data if I have DND active on my line?

A. You will not receive data request if you have Full DND active on your line.

A. You can only transfer data from your daily, weekly, and monthly access bundle plans. However, you will not be able to transfer data from certain customized / tariff-based data bundles like XtraValue and XtraSpecial bundles.

Can I transfer data from my Xtrabyte balance to a friend? Can I transfer data from my Xtrabyte balance to a friend?

A. No, you cannot transfer data to a friend from your Xtrabyte balance. You can only transfer data from your active access bundle plans.

How long can I have a pending data request? How long can I have a pending data request?

A. A request will be active for 48 hours on your view pending request menu and you will be able to see only the 10 most recent ones if you have multiples.

I just purchased a monthly bundle, but I am still having unused data in my daily and weekly bundle balance that will soon expire. Can I transfer the daily and weekly bundles to my friend? A. No, you will only be able to transfer from the bundle with the latest validity at any given time and the expiry date will be the same on the beneficiary’s line.

I am having 5MB, 25MB, and 40MB remaining in my daily, weekly, and monthly balance respectively. Will I be able to transfer from my combined data balance to a friend? A. No, you will not be able to combine your total balance for any transfer. You will only be able to transfer from the data plan that has sufficient balance.

Can I automate data transfer from my data balance to my family and friends? Can I automate data transfer from my data balance to my family and friends?

A. Yes, you can by selecting “Automate Transfer” under the Data Gifting menu, Dial *312*8# and select 5 or dial *321*2# and select option 5, then set a beneficiary. Select data volume to be transfer e.g. 50MB, 100MB, 200MB, 500MB, 1GB, 2GB, 3GB or 5GB and then set the frequency e.g. weekly or monthly.

A. You can have a maximum of 5 beneficiaries on your list.

A. Yes, by selecting “Manage Beneficiary list, then select “View beneficiary”.

A. Yes, you will be able to edit or remove a beneficiary on your list by selecting the Manage beneficiary option and going to view/remove beneficiary.

Can I stop Auto renewal at any time? Can I stop Auto renewal at any time?

A. Yes, you can stop auto transfer by selecting “Stop auto transfer”, under manage beneficiary list menu. This will cancel auto transfer to all beneficiaries.

Can I transfer to multiple times in a day? Can I transfer to multiple times in a day?

A. Yes, you can transfer data from your active data balance to your family and friends, multiple times in a day but the maximum amount you can transfer is 5GB, cumulatively or at once.

Can data be transferred to me if I am still having sufficient data in my line? Can data be transferred to me if I am still having sufficient data in my line?

A. Yes, but the data you received will deplete first before your active data bundle.

If I have multiple data bundles active and received a data gift, which bundle will deplete first? If I have multiple data bundles active and received a data gift, which bundle will deplete first?

A. If someone buys data for you with the multiple data bundles active on your line, the data bundle with the least validity will be used first.

Example: If you have an active 30-day bundle plan and received a gift of 1-day plan, the 1-day plan will be used first before the 30-day plan.

Can I enjoy bonus offers on the data bundle I am gifted? Can I enjoy bonus offers on the data bundle I am gifted?

A. You will only be able to enjoy bonus on the bundle that is bought for you if you are eligible for the offers, but you will NOT be able to enjoy bonus on data that is transferred to you.

Will I be charged an additional cost for using the MTN’s Gift Data service? Will I be charged an additional cost for using the MTN’s Gift Data service?

A. No, you will only be charged the price of the data plan if you are buying for a friend.

Will my gifted data auto renew on the day of expiry? Will my gifted data auto renew on the day of expiry?

A. You will only be able to auto-renew the bundle that was bought for you by sending the opt-in keyword to 312, but the bundle that was transferred to you will not auto-renew and will be valid till the expiry date.

Will I be able to rollover my unused gifted data bundle? Will I be able to rollover my unused gifted data bundle?

A. You will be able to roll over any unused main data bundle that is bought for you as long as you buy or receive another bundle before the current bundle expires or within the allowed grace period after the bundle expires, but you will NOT be able rollover any unused data bonus and data that is transferred to you.

A. No, you can only gift your loved ones data bundle by accessing the service yourself.

A. You will be able to check your data bundle balance  via the following channels:

  • SMS: Texting 2 to 323
  • USSD: dialing *323*4#
  • myMTN App
  • Zigi
