A. The following are required to enjoy VoLTE calls:

  • A 4G SIM and a 4G VoLTE capable smartphone.
  • Be in an area where 4G Network is available VoLTE compatible smartphones (configured on the network) for both the caller and the receiver.
  • All customers with eligible devices + SIM must restart their devices to complete the provisioning process for the MTN VoLTE service.
  • 4G Network coverage.

Note: VoLTE service is currently available on the devices listed on the table below.

A. All MTN subscribers that meet all conditions listed above.

What are the eligible smartphones for the VoLTE service? What are the eligible smartphones for the VoLTE service?

A. Only the models listed on the table for VoLTE-supported phones below will be eligible.

How do I enable VoLTE on my VoLTE-compatible device? How do I enable VoLTE on my VoLTE-compatible device?

A. To enable VoLTE on your device:

  • Go to Settings
  • Select SIM & Network settings
  • Select the MTN SIM and scroll down to “Preferred network type”
  • Select 2G/3G/4G auto as the preferred network type.
  • Toggle on “4G Calling” or “HD call”
  • Restart your device to complete the provisioning process to start to making VoLTE calls.
How do I know if I am making call on VoLTE? How do I know if I am making call on VoLTE?

A. The VoLTE icon next to the network signal indicator will remain visible on the screen during the call. On some phones, “HD” will also appear next to the call timer in addition to the ‘VoLTE’ icon.

How do I opt in to enjoy the VoLTE service? How do I opt in to enjoy the VoLTE service?

A. Customers will not be required to opt in to enjoy the VoLTE service. Once you meet the VoLTE requirements you will receive a notification that your line has been enabled for VoLTE.

How much will I be charged while making a VoLTE call? How much will I be charged while making a VoLTE call?

A. VoLTE calls will be charged at your normal tariff plan rate. There is no extra cost for making VoLTE calls.

If I call a non-VoLTE smartphone with my VoLTE-enabled smartphone, will the call still be VoLTE? If I call a non-VoLTE smartphone with my VoLTE-enabled smartphone, will the call still be VoLTE?

A. No. For a call to be VoLTE, the caller and the recipient MUST:

  • Be on the MTN network and within 4G network coverage.
  • Must have VoLTE compatible smartphones and SIMs
  • Must have VoLTE enabled on their smartphone
Can I make a VoLTE call in a location without 4G network coverage? Can I make a VoLTE call in a location without 4G network coverage?

A. No, 4G network coverage is one of the pre-requisites to enjoying the VoLTE service

If I am watching a video when a VoLTE call comes in, will my video be paused? If I am watching a video when a VoLTE call comes in, will my video be paused?

A. No, VoLTE allows the simultaneous use of data (e.g. streaming video) while on a voice call.

Do I require data to enjoy VoLTE calls? Do I require data to enjoy VoLTE calls?

No, you can make VoLTE calls with or without Data.

What happens when I initiate a VoLTE call within a 4G network coverage location and move to a location without 4G network coverage? What happens when I initiate a VoLTE call within a 4G network coverage location and move to a location without 4G network coverage?

A. When you move from a 4G-enabled location to a non 4G-enabled location, the call automatically switches to 3G, without the call being interrupted. But this means that you will not continue using your data, while you are on your call.

A. Yes, Customers can opt-out of the VoLTE service at any time by sending “NOVOLTE” to 312.
